The research centre for culture and computer science (FKI) has been established on the Campus Wilheminenhof of HTW Berlin. Since March 2013 it became a location where scholars from different fields of work develop research strategies for interdisciplinary projects in the cultural sciences, the cultural and creative industries as well as computer science. The FKI serves research groups as a space for first meetings, knowledge transfer, joint development of projects, focused work on specific questions, and public presentation and discussion of the interdisciplinary work.

Public events are also taking place in the rooms of the building, among them the Spreeforum Informationsgesellschaft and the conference Wireless Communication and Information which are both organized by the INKA research group.

In November 2010 the design by the Berlin-based architecture firm Numrich Albrecht Klump won the competition set by the Senate Administration for Urban Development Berlin. The laying of the foundation stone took place on December 6th, 2011. After its finalization, the building of the FKI holds not only offices, group and seminar rooms but also a Motion Capturing Lab and a multipurpose area for conferences and exhibitions.
